3 November

Prepare for class

  1. Write 300-600 words: Describe an incident in the past involving race, class, gender, sexuality, religion, or disability in which you felt uncomfortable about, felt you had to justify, or regretted your own behavior. (This may be an incident in which you worried that others might misunderstand you.) In your description, explain why you felt uncomfortable and how you might have acted differently. This is informal writing that will not be graded but that will help you develop your Unit 3 essay.
As you develop this paper, think about these questions: (1) What role, if any, did language or writing play in the incident or in its possible alternatives?
    (2) What was at stake in this incident? Why did it matter enough for you to even remember it? Drop this writing in the Blackboard digital dropbox before class time.
  2. Design your November 17 assignment. You can choose to do the assignment listed below, or you can propose to do a different but related assignment. If you choose the assignment listed below, send me an email confirming that. If you wish to do a variation on it, send your proposal to me in an email before class time.
