possible project
thinking about...
exploring how to integrate african-american rhetorical traditions in a comp classroom in a way that goes beyond our field's attempt to diversify its pedagogical approaches by merely assigning works authored by folks from marginalized groups
means that...
if we were serious about culture and its role in the teaching of writing, we would have to revisit standards and assessment practices
so...
this project will require a foray into the history of standards and should include a discussion of standards as gate-keepers

So. A project that historicizes standards would be extremely useful. Would you look at written standards, such as our learning outcomes for 105? At syllabi? At textbooks and handbooks? At scholarship on standards? Would you do a chronological analysis, looking for changes and consistencies over time? A synchronic analysis that described a particular moment in time? The Ebonics movement? Would you include the Oakland decision? The Ann Arbor case? I'll be glad to mull this over with you, if you'd like. Just call (between 9 and 9). You'll find a lot of useful secondary sources in this bibliography.
