Subversive photography
I've been wondering how long it will be legal to take "candid" shots of strangers on one's cell phone. This doesn't answer that specific question, but it does address the larger question of whether the law might begin to constrain the production of images. It has; under the rubric of the GD Patriot Act, officials are restricting photographers from taking pictures—on the frickin subway.
Part of the problem . . . is police officers and security guards who are uneducated about the law.The USA Patriot Act, with its broad definition of "suspicious activity," has cracked the door wider to individual interpretation.

A few weeks back signs popped up at the YMCA I attend saying that use of cell phones was prohibited in all areas of the Y except for the lobby--presumably because of camera phones. And while I definitely don't want any shots of myself from the locker room, I wonder why they banned them from the workout rooms (complaints about loud conversations maybe?). Interesting article--thanks for the lead.
