Color me thrilled

FRED IS IN MY STUDY WITH ME!!!

I've been sitting here whacking away at Chapter 16 for quite awhile. Finally I realized that it has cooled off enough that I ought to go dump the kitchen waste in the compost pile and give the old pile a turn. (After all, BP just bought me a new compost fork! The man is a born romantic.)

So I turned around in my chair, and there was Fred behind me, playing quietly with a catnip toy! Now, over the past week he has made several excursions upstairs, meowing and cowering, but as far as I know this is the first time he has lit anywhere.

And he's still here! He has settled down on top of a box of computer paper and is acting like this is what he always does.

And all three other cats are in here! The girls don't even seem perturbed. Ruthie is zonked in a basket on top of the high bookcase; Teakettle has gone back to sleep on her window pillow; and even Luigi, the big coward, is watching him in a less-than-terrified posture from her position on my writing table.

Fred has now gone back to catnipping. The boy digs drugs, and I think he has taken upon himself the task of disassembling that toy.

This feels like the neatest thing that ever happened to me. Yeah, I don't get out much.

The compost can wait.

Are you sure you don't want to bring Fred to Missouri so that he can live with me?

Tres cool, Becky.
