Fred's first household trial

Today we have guests coming for brunch, and tonight, dinner and overnight guests. Fred's headquarters is the library, which adjoins not only the kitchen but also, through double glass doors, the dining room. I'm figuring old Freddie is gonna be spending more time today under the bookcase than on the couch.

Incidentally, Ruthie goes into Fred's apartment at least twice a day, and Teakettle has been in there, too. Yet the aggressive Luigi, after spending a couple of days meowing at the door, begging for a crack at Fred, has retreated to the upstairs, as if the downstairs didn't exist. This morning I figured out why: Fred has sprayed the door, and Luigi has apparently read his message loud and clear. I think it's the only time he's sprayed since Day One, and frankly, I'm more amused than horrified. Simple Solution will solve all problems.

Tomorrow, once our guests are gone, we'll begin the gradual process of debalkanizing the house. If you see a mushroom cloud on the eastern horizon, it just might be Earlville.
