And speaking of smear campaigns
It's enough to make a girl want to eat Freedom fries. (Jokes, I brought jokes.) English-language intertext here. "L'image d'Armstrong entachée." Oh, yeah? Sullied by whom, SVP? Not by doping, but by the French press. I like Fignon's response: "I don't give a shit." Lance, amigo, this shit sucks. As Cycleicious observes, "In other news, some residents of the South are still sore about losing the Civil War."

Tour director LeBlanc, and ESPN, are going with the story.

Did you get to see Lance on "Larry King"? I didn't get to see it, but there's something about the interview here. I sure hope he can clear his name after this mud-slinging...

Yes, I did see the Larry King thang. (I guess I couldn't get through life without seeing a single episode of that show.) A fairly full account of it is on Cycling News. The fact is, Lance can't possibly clear his name. This recent test was run by an independent lab, not using the doublechecks and safeguards provided for by WADA. So the evidence is inconclusive yet cannot be refuted. Whether the guy doped, I certainly don't know. Whether the relentless campaign against him has gone so far that it can no longer even see the light of common decency, I'm quite certain. The French press gave up the idea that Lance had faked his cancer, but they just can't let go of this one, even after his retirement.
