Tournament Couch selections

As much of the sports-oriented world now knows, Mountaineer fans have a distinctive way of celebrating football and basketball victories: they burn their couches. The ESPN announcers think it's terribly amusing, and they make regular reference to the practice.

I've never participated in that particular ritual myself, but having spent my grad school days living in Sunnyside, the student slum that is the mecca of couch-burning sports celebrations, I've seen plenty. (We were at 601 Grant Avenue, to be precise.) Figuring that we're now beyond the long arm of the West Virginia law, BP and I are considering which of our couches we might burn in celebration of an NCAA victory—and at what stage of the tournament a Mountaineer win would be burnworthy. I think we can rule out the couch that one of BP's students gave us, as well as the one that I sat through a long, hot auction for. Our favorite couch is one that we paid nine dollars for at another auction. The couch we'd like to replace is the one we actually bought at a furniture store, new. We have a truly unremarkable couch that we inherited from BP's mother, but it's big and comfortable and has a rollaway bed. We have a little crappy wicker settee that the cats love to shred and sleep on, and I'm not sure it counts as a couch, anyhow. So which one goes out onto the road and gets set afire? And at what stage of the tournament? We can't count on WVU going all the way; they're a #6 seed. They're likely to win today against NW State, and I figure they have a shot at Texas. But Duke? So we need to make our couch selection early, and I'm thinking that it would be a Texas victory that would warrant the conflagration. Or should we hold out for Duke? And which couch?
