Comfort purchases

As I unpack the bag, I'll regale you with a list of what I purchased at Office Max yesterday, so that the next time you get a cortisone shot in your foot, you'll know how to comfort yourself. Some people would drink or eat in response; me, I go to the nearest office supply store and purchase

  1. A package of 10 poly file folders: great for transporting files in your handbag or briefcase.
  2. Two flexible poly cover clean view notebooks. Because for every committee I'm on at Syracuse, I'm given an enormous, ten-pound hardcover binder containing about 15 sheets of paper. What is it with these binders? I guess the bigger the binder, the more important the committee. Or maybe they figure that even fool faculty couldn't possibly lose such an enormous binder. Well, this fool faculty actually reads and uses the stuff in these frickin binders but has no way of transporting them from one place to another. (That would take a professional moving company.) Thus two flexible poly cover clean view notebooks. A reasonable purchase, wot?
  3. A package of 3 sets of write-on index dividers. Because if I decide I want to use a notebook, surely I'll want dividers.
  4. A package of assorted binder pockets. Ibid.
  5. A vinyl storage packet that fits all standard 3-ring binders. So I can keep pens, highlighters, and stick-ons in my notebook when I go to a committee meeting.
  6. A view-tab two-subject 6x9" college ruled 100-sheet notebook, for taking notes during committee meetings. I've been using the PDA for that purpose for several years, but of course nobody, not even a PDA geek such as myself, can write at anything but a snail's pace in that little graffiti screen. Plus I almost never refer back to PDA notes. So we'll give actual pen & paper a whirl for a while. But wait, you might be saying, what about those flexible poly cover clean view notebooks? Ah, those are for the academic advising committee and the vice-chancellor's committee on academic integrity, both of which persist in handing out stuff to be put in those whopper notebooks. The view-tab two-subject 6x9" college ruled 100-sheet notebook is what I'll take to faculty meetings, curriculum committee meetings, and what not.
  7. A box of 100 clear push pins. Because we couldn't find any the last time we were looking for them.
  8. A package of six 3/4" multicolor binder clips. Because they are pretty.
  9. A package of five 1" multicolor binder clips. Ibid.
  10. A box of 100 #3 size brass plated fasteners (back in the Day, they were called "brads"). Because I wanted some a few days ago and couldn't find any.
  11. A Crystal Clear Page Up, because of how my new computer glasses are configured. Now I'll be able to read manuscript sheets whilst working at the keyboard without bending over the desk. Besides, it was a buck cheaper than the Colgate Bookstore is charging.
  12. Three report covers with double pockets and 3 metal fasteners. Because they were there.
And there you have it. For the low, low price of $49.94, you can go home and not even worry about your sore foot.

Number 5 would also be known as a pencil case, yes? What's more fun than a new pencil case? I think I see a trip in my future...

I, too, have always loved (LOVED!) office supply stores. One can never have to many binder clips, markers, pens, folders, sticky note pads, . . . I think I'll go shoppping this afternoon. :-)

I was at Staples the other day, but alas, forced myself to resist the beautiful office supplies. I was there to buy a folding bookshelf...and accidentally purchased one I had to assemble, but it works...and a special folding lap desk for laptops. Which sucks. I have to return it. And for being a savvy consumer, perhaps I'll reward myself...

My eldest suffers from the same 'office supply' addiction as you. Nothing in the world makes her feel better than a trip to Staples. Later at home, she is able to sit for hours organizing her stuff. Y'all are weird.

I use a Targus keyboard myself, though not that particular one.
