Le Landis

Most visitors here are not, I realize, cycling junkies. But this year's Tour is simply extraordinary, breathtaking. Even BP is wrapped up in it. And SI, of all places, has the best description I've encountered. Time trials aren't usually as much fun to watch as Alpine mountain stages, but tomorrow's should be a stunner.

And it looks like with Landis's great ride today, he's going to pull it out! I thought Phonak gave away the Tour with their early "easy before the mountains" gamble. Maybe they did, but for Landis's stunning ride in stage 17.

No kidding!!! I've been hanging on every word in the live update window at http://live.cyclingnews.com/?id=latest. I thought it would be a bummer to not have a Lance or an Indurain or some other safe bet -- but it's turned out to be about a million times more thrilling! Landis is soooooo close. :)

He did it! And the funniest piece I've read about Landis (aka Flying Floyd) is the one that wants to know what kind of beer he drank the night before he mowed the field. Personally, I'm rooting for it to have been Stella Artois. As for Phonak: jeez, it seems to me that Floyd should have taken Johann up on what was apparently an offer. Phonak has been a remarkably underwhelming team in this Tour.
